Details
We journey chronologically through Egypt, starting with the Pyramids of the Old Kingdom at Saqqara, Giza and Dashur, as well as visiting the Egyptian Museum and the Grand Egyptian Museum. We then travel south, exploring the Middle Kingdom sites of Beni Hassan and Meir, before visiting the famous site of Amarna built by Tutankhamun's father, Akhenaten.
On our way to Luxor, we stop at the sites of Dendera and Abydos with their New Kingdom and Late Period temples. Now dominated by these later temples, these sites date back to the Predynastic and Early Dynastic periods of ancient Egypt, a time of development and social complexity just prior to the Pyramid Age. We will immerse ourselves in the New Kingdom at Luxor, visiting the many tombs and temples on the East and West Banks, before joining our luxury dahabeya. Sailing along the Nile to Aswan, we will stop off at the sites of Edfu, El Kab, and Kom Ombo, before arriving in Aswan and visiting the island of Elephantine and Philae.
We journey to the temples of Ramesses II at Abu Simbel before flying to Alexandria to see the Greek and Roman ruins as well as the Qaitbey Citadel on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea. Our final stop is back to Cairo to explore Egypt's more recent history at the citadel of Saladin, Coptic Cairo and Moez Street, and the Museum of Islamic Art.
Along our journey we will experience the delicious food of modern Egypt and even attempt some cooking of our own. Egypt from the Pyramid Age provides the most comprehensive experience of Egypt's vast history and the wonders this country has to offer. Tailored for those passionate about Egyptian history, this is a trip of a lifetime learning about the dawn of ancient Egypt to the modern day.
